UNHCR’s Nansen Refugee Award 2021 edition

The search for exceptional persons/individuals has begun again for the UNHCR’S Nansen Refugee Award 2021. These persons have taken steps further from the basics of duty to support refugees, internally displaced persons and stateless people

The 2020 edition crowned Miss Mayerlín Vergara Pérez, popularly known as Maye as the winner/laureate. She is a human rights activist and works as the Caribbean regional coordinator for the Renacer Foundation, a non-governmental organization working to completely eradicate sexual abuse and exploitation of children and adolescents among whom were refugees.

Actions like this are what the UNHCR is targeting for the award and therefore nominations bearing names of individuals or groups of persons that have displayed exemplary and extraordinary humanitarian work on behalf of refugees, stateless people and internally displaced persons are welcome. The winner will be chosen by the Nansen Refugee Award Selection Committee which is made up of members designated by the Swiss government and the Norwegian government as well as some executives of Council of Europe and international council of voluntary agencies. Section process, of course, will be strictly confidential.

It should also be noted that nominations can be submitted online and can also be submitted in any of the official languages of the United Nations(contact A response from the Nansen Secretariat will provide confirmation of the submitted entry.
