Africa, with a population centring on youths (60%), proves that an investment in the younger generation will yield tremendous output. In the bid to foster this change, the United States Government, in synergy with the Regional Leadership Centre (RLC), Accra, Ghana, launched the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) in 2014;

With the recent advent of the coronavirus pandemic, as well as other global issues arising due to this pandemic, this year’s program promises to be more challenging and encompassing; to build young African leaders as frontiers, leading revolutionary change, proffering sustainable to Africa, and the rest of the world;

Selection Criteria

This year’s cohort selection is majorly merit-based and open to all eligible young African leaders, subject to a selection process of experts and global leaders.
Proceeding, emerging semi-finalists will undergo an interview session, from which the finalists, will be selected; An invitation to join the program would be sent, to these finalists.

The evaluation panels make their selection based on the following criteria:

– Demonstration of leadership qualities in public service, business and entrepreneurship, or civic engagement.
– Active participation in public or community service, volunteer work, and mentorship.
– Possession of collaborative skills to function in diverse groups and respect the opinions of others.
– Outstanding social and communication skills.
– Proactiveness
– Demonstration of knowledge, interest, and professional experience in the sector/track selected, and
– A drive to apply leadership skills and training to benefit your country and community after the program.

Reasons to Apply to the YALI Accra RLC

  •  Participants will be awarded certificates and become members of the YALI Alumni after the programs
  •  Participants will be exposed to various types of leadership training to prepare them for leadership roles in their various capacities.

What We Offer

  • Business and Entrepreneurship
    This part is for emerging or aspiring entrepreneurs that want to take on leadership roles within the private sector or build their business ventures on the continent.
  • Civil Society Management
    This part targets those who are or aspire to be engaged civically and give back to the public through a non-governmental organisation, community-based organisation, or volunteerism;
  • Public Policy and Management
    This part is for those who work or aspire to work in any level of government (including elected positions), regional or international organisation such as the African Union, United Nations, or other change driving the organisation;
