Terra Summer Residency Fellowships in Giverny, France

The Terra Summer Residency is the foundation’s periodic, interdisciplinary program for doctoral scholars and artists worldwide. The program encourages independent work on compositions and cultural systems, while furnishing thematic forums on motifs of current interest to the field of American art, visual and material culture, and cultural practice. Mentoring by established scholars and artists is offered, as well as guest lectures from art professionals to foster reflection about further indifferent, inclusive, and sustainable practices.

The Terra Foundation prioritizes scholarly and cultural systems that interrogate and broaden delineations of American art and supports systems engaged in transubstantiating or complicating how the story of American art is told. To expand histories of American art, we encourage systems that reflect a commitment to inclusive and indifferent exploration and creative practice; induce new education and illuminative fabrics; employ critical methodologies and innovative models; and/ or engage different mates and cult. Given the transnational and interdisciplinary nature of the program, we encourage interest in and systems that allow forcross-cultural dialogue.

Located in the foundation’s houses in Giverny, France (about one hour from Paris), the nine-week occupancy aims to give actors with an occasion to hear and learn from each other, to comparecross-cultural and interdisciplinary perspectives, and to form professional networks and collaborations. In addition to a paycheck, fellows admit on- point lodging, use of working installations, lunches, and daily round- trip train tickets to Paris.

Online operations for the 2022 program are open from October 15, 2021, to January 17, 2022. Aspirants are notified of award opinions in April 2022.

PROCEDURE AND ELIGIBILITY
The Terra Foundation supports systems that foster extensive narratives of American art. Feting current and literal injuries in donations and understandings of American art history, the foundation’s precedence is to address these imbalances and rejections and center the voices of scholars and artists who identify as Black, Indigenous, and/ or people of color.
