Overview of the Daring to Shift Project (2020-2023)
DOT Tanzania has recently launched its new project “Daring to Shift Project” which is about to be implemented between 2020 and 2023 in various regions in Tanzania mainland and Zanzibar.

Daring to Shift may be a four-year project that places young women and men at the middle of inclusive community development and empowers them with the digital and human skills, knowledge, and networks they have to make opportunities and transform their own communities. Supported by the govt of Canada through Global Affairs Canada, Daring to Shift is aligned to the Sustainable Development Goals and contributes to Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy.

The project will see 285 youth between the ages of 18 and 35 leading development initiatives in their own communities across four thematic pillars: digital jobs, digital business, social entrepreneurship, and community leadership.

Here is how 285 Youth, 200 of them being women, will lead their communities into digital literacy and ultimately financial freedom.

110 youth are going to be trained to become Community Leaders and that they will train 9,000 young women and men in digital skills which will help improve their businesses.
150 young Social Innovators start impactful businesses which will solve community problems and cause self-employment.
10 Digital Ambassadors will train 500 other youth in digital skills which will increase their employment chances within the job market.
The project will welcome youth from everywhere Tanzania with key regions being Dar es Salaam, Morogoro, Dodoma, Mwanza, Tabora, Kigoma, Iringa, Arusha, Tanga, and Zanzibar. 70% of all beneficiaries are going to be women, this suggests 6,000 women will enjoy this project by 2023.

The introduction of D2S comes during a time when digital skills are crucial for any business and job seeker. We must equip our youth with digital, leadership, entrepreneurship, and 21st-century skills to create their resilience within the Post Covid-19 era.
