ENROLL FOR LAFARGE AFRICA’S NATIONAL ESSAY COMPETITION
OVERVIEW:

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
To commemorate the 60th anniversary of Nigeria as well as the 60th anniversary of LAP in Nigeria, Lafarge Africa PLC, is organising a national essay competition. The theme for this essay competition is “Building the Nigeria of my dreams”, which is follows the LAP’s nation-building initiative, which is to promote patriotism and corporate citizenship. The competition will begin at midnight on 4th December 2020 and end by midnight on 31st December 2020. Late entries will not be accepted. The competition is broken down into two categories. The Junior Category and the Intermediate Category.
The length of the essay shall not exceed 500 words (+/- 10%) for the Junior Category and 750 words (+/- 10%) for the Intermediate Category. The 20 top participants will be selected on 26th January 2021. They will be required to do a video presentation of their respective essays and submissions of this video will be accepted from the 2nd February 2021 to 3rd February 2021. The final winners will be selected by LAP and announced on 17th February 2021. The competition is open to pupils of public primary schools who are between the ages of 9 – 13 years, for the Junior Category of the competition, and students of public junior secondary schools between the ages of 9 to 13 years for the Intermediate Category of the competition. The children of LAP employees are not be allowed to participate. Only one entry submission will be accepted from each participant. Any participant who submits more than one entry will be disqualified from the competition. Each participant is expected to complete the online forms with the required information on www.learnwithlafarge.com (the “Online Portal”). All submitted essays must be written in English, typed, and uploaded to the Online Portal following the instructions specified. Participants should keep their own copies of the essays as no entries will be returned.No feedback will be given on any entries, either during or after the competition.
The 20 top chosen participants for each category will be required to provide their certificate of birth, school accreditation, passport photograph, and first-term result for the 2019/2020 academic session for verification. The first, second and third overall winners for each category will receive cash prizes of N1,500,000.00, N1,000,000.00 and N750,000.00 respectively, as well as books, branded school accessories such as school bags, water bottles, flasks and educational tablets, pre-loaded with educational content. The top winners for each category will also be given a desktop computer system each for their schools with its complete accessories. Consolation prizes of N200, 000.00 each will be given to the authors of 2 good essays from each category. Books, branded school accessories like school bags, water bottles and flasks will also be given to these participants. The cash prizes received shall be held in trust for the winners and shall be strictly utilized to meet their educational needs. The prizes are not transferable and no part or parts of the prizes may be substituted for other benefits, items or additions. The decision regarding the winners of the competition is final. Lafarge Africa PLC, reserves the right, to use the names, photographs and information about the participants, at their sole and absolute discretion, in accordance with the completed consent forms, which will be provided by the participant’s parent/guardian, for any form of commercial or non-commercial endeavours, publicity, advertising, trade or promotion in perpetuity.
LAP will not be responsible for any problem, loss or damage of whatsoever nature suffered by any person due to any delay and/or failure in submitting entries to the competition. LAP will not be responsible or liable for any costs, problems, damage or loss of whatsoever nature to the participants resulting from their participation in the competition. LAP reserves the right to disqualify any participant who may submit any material, which in LAP’s opinion is considered to be offensive. Entries must be the original work by the participant. Any plagiarism of any sort will result in an automatic disqualification. It is the responsibility of the participant to ensure that their essay does not infringe the copyright of any third party or any other laws. Use of personal data received by Lafarge Africa PLC during the course of the competition will be subject to the Nigerian Data Protection Regulation. The winners will be published in selected national dailies and on LAP’s social media handles. Submission of an entry will be deemed acceptance of these terms and conditions.
