Break the silence and secrecy around mental illness, mental illnesses are treatable. These disorders can affect absolutely anyone.
However, the myths surrounding mental illnesses are ever dominant and misleading. There is also a negative reception of such persons.
Empowerment and education of persons and their families who have had direct experience of living with a mental disorder, to convince them to show the world they are not so bad and to overshadow the enormous stigma they are faced with is also required.

TALKING ABOUT THE PROBLEM COULD HELP.
Ignorance and unavailability of quality mental health care facilities in Nigeria further worsen their condition. Thus, the majority of affected persons seek help through other means and may face human rights abuses.
Yet we know that mental illnesses are treatable conditions and effective treatment options are available. Through understanding these conditions, where to access care and how to help, are difficult to reach. And the state of mind it is treated it escalates the problem.
