OVERVIEW
The Zukunftskolleg is an Institute of Advanced Study (IAS). We offer fellowships and a broad support network to promote the independence of early career researchers. Researchers at the postdoctoral level work with little administrative constraints and they also enjoy the freedom to engage in meaningful exchanges with other colleagues and distinguished senior researchers.
Researchers around the world in the fields of humanities, social and natural sciences come to Konstanz to perform first-class research. The Zukunftskolleg fellowship is a keystone strategy in the University of Konstanz’s to promote top-level research. The University of Konstanz is among Germany’s Universities of Excellence.

“Manfred Ulmer-Stiftung für Wissenschaft und Gesellschaft”; a foundation at the University of Konstanz has been funding early career researchers since 1979. From 2021, the foundation will begin to support the “ZUKOnnect Fellowship” and the Manfred-Ulmer scholarship – a scholarship programme that has been running for several decades – with an amount of 6,000 euros thereby funding one of the four scholarships. The Manfred Ulmer foundation is happy because by doing this, they can play a more active role in attracting international early career researchers in the future and they can also support this innovative idea of the Zukunftskolleg at the University of Konstanz.
The Zukunftskolleg Fellowships wants to support early career researchers from Africa, Asia and Latin America, people who are associated with one of the thirteen departments at the University of Konstanz. As a ZUKOnnect fellow, this time can be used to extend your research networks and to also know the research environment at the University of Konstanz while maintaining your roots and position at home. These fellowships is a bridge to the German and European academic system, doctoral students in their last year are encouraged to apply.
